4. Goal Keeping Program

U16 Junior Goal Keeper training for the 2024/2025 Season
We have secured an agreement with The Goalie Guide.

A team member from The Goalie Guide team will provide high-quality, fun, enjoyable, and tailored sessions for goalies of varying abilities up to U16. They will be structured and specialised to enhance the skills and needs of each Goalkeeper throughout their development.
The caching program will be set up as follows:

  • Week 1: Coaching session – skill development session
  • Week 2: Monthly junior tournament week – skills learnt put into practice
  • Week 3: Coaching session – game reflection and skill development session
  • Week 4: Caching session with age group and AHC coach.

The Goalie Guide aims to provide specialised goalkeeper training, building the development of confident, skilled, and robust goalies who contribute significantly to their team's success. Throughout the season sessions will cover a variety of progressive skills as follows:
Junior Development Program:

  • Fundamental movements through strength and conditioning practice: to educate the importance of the dynamics of a goalkeeper, through the use of good footwork practice (agility), quickness (speed), strength (power), explosiveness, balance and hand eye coordination.
  • Positioning and Movement: Focus on proper positioning and efficient movement within the Goal area. Focus may be on what is the most effective way to move and protect our goal?
  • Basic Save Techniques: Mastering fundamental save techniques, including kicking, glove work, driving, blocking and glove saves.
  • Junior Intermediate Program:
  • Advanced Techniques: Building on fundamental skills with advanced techniques in order to cope with the progressive demands (rebounds, Second phase), such as ground work mobility and recovery.
  • Rebound Control: Teaching goalies to control rebounds effectively.
  • Introduce Communication Skills: Emphasising the importance of communication with the defence and team.

We look forward to welcoming you back to AHC for the 22/25 season.
